I'm writing you this poem
And I'm leaving bits of it all over the city
With a trail that ends at my chest
Call it a summer-long scavenger hunt for my heart
I've left a list on your night stand with a challenge
Come find me

I've stamped smudged lines on backs of hands
Underlined passages in library books
Glued index cards to street signs
And left notes with homeless men along your way to work

Check your bed
Between the mattress and its cover
You'll find my handiwork

All over the city
I've left these messages
Each carefully crafted to affect you
Every line, every fold, every curve
Vetted to leave an imprint upon you

I hope you can appreciate the effort that went into this

Scouting locations
Laboring over phrasing
And secretive placement
But in truth, it didn't seem like much work
And what was went by fast

I knew I'd need a game to interest you
So I made one with my heart
And that to have you love me back
I'd have to offer you my art
